What is a Scan
The Avacy scanning tool allows, by inspecting a given website, the automatic detection of cookies and tracking technologies present on it.
It can be useful in order to have a general overview of who or what can profile the user during website navigation and greatly simplify the writing (or generation) of documents such as privacy or cookie policy, which would otherwise have to be compiled manually.
Start a New Scan
To start a new scan of your domain, simply go to the web space dashboard and, in the "Scansions" box, click the "New Scan" button.
Optionally, you can specify if there is already a cookie banner installed on your site and, if so, enter the text of the button set to accept cookies; this step will provide a more complete and accurate result. In any case, simply click the “Start Scan” button.
While the scan is running, you can continue to use Avacy without the risk of interfering with the process. Once completed, you will receive a notification of successful completion and can view the results.
Scan Results
A successfully performed scan produces two types of results:
To view the results of a scan, go to the web space dashboard and in the "Scansions" box click the "View" button next to the scan you want to examine.
Within each scan, you can view the respective section dedicated to vendors and the one for cookies.
It is important to specify that, in this section, only the final result of the scan is shown. Therefore, for the purpose of compiling privacy or cookie policy, this step is only a starting point.
In fact, the scan is not always able to list all the cookies present on a site, and it is not always possible to accurately determine all the information related to the cookies, such as the category or the associated vendor. Therefore, it is often necessary to manually update this information in the appropriate sections.
To do this, you can import all or only some of the detected vendors into your vendors list. This action can be done by clicking the button at the bottom of each row "Add to vendors list", or by selecting multiple rows and then clicking "Add selection to vendors list".
Similarly, you can import the cookies detected by a scan into the cookies list by selecting them individually or in bulk and clicking "Add selection to cookies list".
You can access the cookies and vendors lists at any time from the side menu.
Scans comparison
If you wish to compare the results of two scans carried out on a web space you can use the scan comparison function, which can be reached from the "Scans" page by clicking on the "Compare scans" button at the top.
Once you reach the page, select the two scans to compare from the drop-down menu and click on "Start".
The comparison result will appear below, and show:
- New suppliers and cookies detected in the latest scan compared to the previous one
- Suppliers and cookies absent in the last scan compared to the previous one
- Vendors and cookies detected in both scans.
By opening the details it will be possible to add or remove cookies and suppliers from your lists directly from this page.
