Banner that meets Google's requirements

This page explains how to set up the Avacy banner for a site that uses Google Consent Mode. It shows what the Google Consent Mode preset gives you and where to find it in the dashboard.

NOTE: To read Google's own rules, see the links at the end of this page.

Everything from the dashboard

You set up the whole banner in the Avacy dashboard. You do not write HTML or JavaScript for it. The only code is the installation of Avacy on the site, done once: see Avacy for Google Consent Mode and IAB TCF.

In the Cookie Banner section of the webspace you find:

  • Appearance: banner, logo, texts and colors;
  • Text management: language preferences, links to the legal documents, and the texts of the banner (Short information, Main area texts, Preferences area texts);
  • Advanced settings: consent duration, Google Consent Mode and more.

After every change, click Save and publish Cookie Banner.

The Google Consent Mode preset

A preset is a ready-made set of texts and settings. To choose it, go to the top of the Cookie Banner page. In the Choose your preset dropdown select Google Consent Mode.

The preset gives the banner:

  • A short information text written for Google. It explains that, with the consent of the user, the site and selected third parties, including Google, use cookies for the personalization of ads and content and for the analysis of the site. It also says what happens when the user refuses or closes the banner: no profiling cookies are installed, and anonymous signals without cookies may still be sent to Google.
  • A link to how Google uses data. The text ends with a link to business.safety.google/privacy. The link is in the short information text, the first layer of the banner.
  • An explicit consent button. The text refers to the buttons of the banner: one to accept (by default Accept cookies), one to refuse (Reject all) and one that opens the preferences (More information). These are the default labels. You can change them in Short information.
  • A consent duration of 183 days, and the information on the duration in the banner turned on.

The text of the preset is written in 7 languages: Czech, Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Chinese. For any other language of the webspace, the banner shows the English text.

While a preset is selected, the short information text cannot be edited. To write your own text, choose the Manual preset. In that case, add the mention of Google and the link yourself.

New webspaces

A new v3 webspace is created with Google Consent Mode on and with the Google Consent Mode preset already selected. You have nothing to set.

On a webspace with Google Consent Mode on and without IAB TCF, a preset other than Google Consent Mode may not fit. In this case the Cookie Banner page shows a notice under the preset dropdown:

  • title: Apply the recommended template;
  • text: Google Consent Mode is on without IAB TCF: the Google Consent Mode template has first-layer text written for Google, with the link to its data policies.;
  • button: Apply the Google Consent Mode template.

The button selects the Google Consent Mode preset. Be careful: it replaces the short information text in every language of the webspace, so a text you wrote is lost. Then publish the banner.

The notice does not appear if IAB TCF is configured, or if the preset is already Google Consent Mode.
